People usually play fantasy football for some combination of these reasons:

It makes watching games more exciting

Once you have a roster full of players to root for, you'll suddenly find that you have some new favorite teams. Just remember that it is considered poor form to root for injuries or against your favorite team just because you want your fantasy players to do well. Reality always trumps fantasy.

It's competition

Who doesn't love playing games--especially when they're winning?

It's kind of like being your own pro sports GM, except without the long hours...or the money

A lot of players really enjoy the strategy involved in creating a well-balanced team and the consequences every move has.

It's brain exercise

Some people play board games or do crossword puzzles. Fantasy football is another way to keep your mind sharp.

Everybody else is doing it

The general consensus is that there are about 15 million fantasy football players, so you probably know people who play. Maybe they invited you to a league and you're here to learn more about fantasy football before jumping on board.
